Culzean Castle

Between 1777 and 1792, Scotland's most famous architect, Robert Adam, worked on plans for a grand Georgian Mansion, based around an old fortified tower on the Carrick coast near Maybole, for the 10th Earl of Cassillis. What Adam created was one of Scotland's best loved and finest 'modern' castles. Its Circular Saloon and Oval Staircase are widely regarded as Adam's final masterpiece.
