Highland Mary's Grave, Greenock

Known for her relationship with poet Robert Burns, Mary Campbell died at age 23 of of typhus in October 1786. She was originally buried in the old West Kirk in Greenock and a monument was later built over her grave in 1842. However, in 1920 this graveyard was moved when the nearby Harland and Wolff shipyard decided to expand, and the cemetery's remains was reintered in Greenock Cemetery.
