Craigmillar Castle
Craigmillar Castle is a ruined medieval castle in Edinburgh
built for the Preston family, with work beginning in the 14th
century and continuing through the 15th and 16th centuries. In
1660, the castle became the seat of the Gilmour family who resided
in the castle until the 18th century when the property then fell
into ruin.
Famous visitors to the castle include Mary Queen of Scots who
stayed for around a month in the Autumn of 1566 to convalesce after
an illness.
