Armadale Castle in Skye is the former home of the MacDonalds who
. An early dwelling was built in 1690, however the castle was
burned down in retaliation for the MacDonald's support of the
Jacobites. The present castle was commissioned in 1815 for James
Gillespie Graham to design, however, fire again damaged the castle
and the central part of the building was rebuilt in 1850. The
castle was abandoned in the 1920s and it fell into ruin.
