Horse Chestnut
Horse chestnuts trees and their deep brown conkers are for many
the essence of Autumn. Conkers are formed when insects pollinate
the
horse chestnut flower. These flowers then develop into glossy,
mahogany conkers inside a spiky, vividly green husk. In this image,
the horse chestnut fruit is visible inside the husk.
Do you remember playing with conkers when you were younger?
