Music
Throughout the ages, music has had the capacity to bring us all
together as a cultural activity and art form. In many cultures,
music is an important part of people's way of life, as it can play
a key role in religious rituals, ceremonial rites, and social
activities. People can make music as a hobby or to produce
entertainment for the commercial marketplace. With the advent of
sound recording, records of popular songs, rather than sheet music,
became the dominant way that music lovers would enjoy their
favourite songs. In the 1980s and 1990s, home tape recorders meant
that people cold make tapes or playlists of songs. This
selection of objects showcases musical ephemera and the
different way we have enjoyed music throughout the
decades.
