Penkill Castle Staircase

This print is based on a painting by the artist Arthur Hughes. It shows William Bell Scott's mural on the staircase at Penkill Castle and Scott included it in his Autobiographical Notes.   Arthur Hughes, though not a member of the Brotherhood, was closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelites. He was friendly with Scott and Alice Boyd and visited Penkill, completing several paintings of the Castle.   Hughes enjoyed a successful career as an illustrator.
