J Watson Black of Sanquhar

J Watson Black, pit deputy at Fauldhill Pit, began bowling at the age of 14, buying his first set of championship bowls in 1938 for £4.50.   He regularly took the Sanquhar Club championship, as well as several Scottish Championship titles.  However, he is best known for winning two silver medals at the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Perth, Australia.  He also accumulated a world wide collection of bowling club badges.   This black & white photograph shows Mr Watson Black bowling.  Alongside is an invite for a 'Civic Reception & Dinner' held in his honour at the Commercial Hotel, Sanquhar, on 7th December 1962.
