Ayrshire Archives
Ayrshire Archives is a repository of historical records for North, South and East Ayrshire Councils. It is dedicated to preserving and providing access to a wide range of documents and materials that document the history and heritage of the region. The archives hold a diverse collection of records from the whole of Ayrshire including the Cumbraes and Arran and the collections are located at various repositories across Ayrshire. It is one of the largest local authority archive collections in Scotland and is managed by a small team of specialist staff.
The oldest record held is the Burgh Charter for the Town of Ayr, dated 1205, and signed by William the Lion, King of Scotland.
