WWII Home Front Warden Helmet

Air Raid Precautions wardens protected civilians from the danger of air raids.  They issued gas masks and pre-fabricated air raid shelters, ensured the upkeep of local public shelters, and maintained the blackout.  They also helped rescue people after air raids and other attacks. There were 1.4 million ARP wardens in Britain, most of whom were part time volunteers who had full time day jobs. This particular helmet has “Elizabeth Grierson” scratched on the inside.
