The Waverley

The original PS Waverly.  The Waverly was sunk off Dunkirk in 1940 during the Second World War.  Thousands of people from all over Scotland cruised 'Doon the Watter' in her every year visiting destinations in the south west of the country like Ayr and Girvan.   A replacement was built in 1947 on the Clyde and continues to this day to offer trips around the Firth of Clyde, the Bristol Channel, the Solent and the River Thames.  It is still a common site berthed in Ayr Harbour.  She is now the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world and as such attracts many enthusiasts from all over the globe.   A complete restoration in 2003 in a style sympathetic to the 1940's has ensured her survival for years to come.
