The New Testament, Psalms of David

This belonged to L Meaton, Royal Engineers, who was stationed at Loch Ryan. The National Bible Society of Scotland gave these to people on active service.   By June 1940 most of the ports in southern England were closed to ocean-going ships, and the two main military ports, Liverpool and Glasgow, were threatened by air raids. The government decided to construct two secret ports for emergency use, one of which was Cairnryan on Loch Ryan. By the end of the war tons of military stores, vehicles and equipment had been landed at the port. It was also one of the main ports for American and Canadian troops landing in Britain, before joining the fighting in Europe.
