Letter to Cecil Riding's wife
Letter from the renowned Commanding Officer of the SAS, Lt Col.
Robert Blair Mayne to Mrs Riding. He is assuring her that Cecil is
well and still in France.
Captain Cecil Riding (Jock) grew up near Lockerbie in
Dumfriesshire. In 1940 he joined the Coldstream Guards before
transferring to the Highland Light Infantry in 1941. In February
1944 Cecil Riding was selected for the newly formed Special Air
Service (SAS) and was posted on special duty throughout occupied
Western Europe in 1944 and 1945 for which he was awarded the
Military Cross.
