Air Raid Precautions Head Warden’s Reports & Log for the ARP post on the Annan Road, Dumfries

In Dumfries the search for Air Raid Wardens began in March 1938, and the first public air raid shelters were built in September 1940. ARP Wardens supervised air raid procedures in the streets and in shelters, issued gas masks and checked the blackout. One in every six was a woman.   This book contains handwritten notes, with dates and times of the activities of the ARP.  Plane sightings, exercises and black out inspections are also noted.
