Corn Dryer, Lockerbie

Medieval corn dryer, Lockerbie Academy Excavations.   Harvested grain would be put on a woven wattle panel, covered in straw matting or coarse cloth. A fire was set outside the dryer (in the extreme top left in the picture), and the hot air passed along the flue to enter the dryer and dry the grains above.
