Flint Knife, Barndennoch
Barndennoch
A large flint knife with rounded tooled edge, pale grey, with
mottled surface on its flat side. Discovered by Mr Irving, a local
farmer near Barndennoch, this site revealed seven stone cists which
were located inside a cairn, and in 1862 this knife was found
inside one of them. The cist also contained human bones and shows
evidence of having been burned.
It is not always possible to distinguish between neolithic and
Bronze Age stone tools. Certain types of arrowhead were more
finely finished, but simple tools such as scrapers and knives
were produced in the same manner for thousands of years.
