Fake bronze axe
This bronze axe with its distinctive flange is typical of the
Bronze Age. It is however a Victorian fake, one of many
produced at that time to feed the market for prehistoric
antiquities.
Dr Selby bought it from an Edinburgh antique dealer in 1894. It
is believed that he thought it was genuine.
