This massive axe-hammer was found on the farm of Culgarie, Wigtownshire in 1894.  It was found by James Robertson of Campford when digging a drain.   The object is complete and little damaged.  Axe-hammers are a puzzle and archaeologists cannot agree on their function.  They may have been multi-purpose digging and splitting tools and may even have functioned as simple plough shares.
