Plate from Threave Castle. A turned wooden plate with a heart design burned into its base. The heart is a heraldic badge associated with the Douglases who owned Threave Castle. It dates to the late 14th or early 15th century.   Threave Castle was built in the late 14th century on a small island in the River Dee. It was a stronghold of the Black Douglases, one of Scotland's most powerful medieval families.
