China model of Burns House, Dumfries

This china model made by Hewitt and Leadbeater of the Willow Pottery, Longton, Staffordshire dates from the early years of the 20th century.  A series of famous houses and cottages were produced as souvenirs and became popular with collectors.   Robert Burns and his family moved into this house in May 1793.  Their standard of living was good and they employed a maid servant.  It was well furnished with a carpet and long case clock in the parlour.  The house had a parlour, kitchen, two bedrooms and even a small study where Burns could write.
