Burns Centenary Bottle, 1896

This bottle issued by Daniel, a Dumfries chemist, depicts Burns' Mausoleum in St Michael's Churchyard, Dumfries.  It was produced to commemorate the centenary of Robert Burns' death in 1896.   The centenary of Robert Burns death on 21 July 1896 saw national celebrations to mark his life and achievements.  This bottle contains a clear liquid in which is preserved a frond of fern, from an Australian wreath (frozen in ice) which was laid at Burns Mausoleum.  It has a cork stopper sealed by wax.
