Curlers at New Farm Loch (7)

All over Ayrshire, curling was a hugely popular sport as people would come together in to play curling and get their blood pumping in the cold Winter months. Nowadays, it is quite rare to have lochs and ponds freeze over to be suitable for an impromptu game due to the gradual warming of our Winter months. Nevertheless, the game remains popular at indoor venues throughout the country. This photo was taken c.1980.   The skips are Provost David Mackay (right) and James edgar, Cemetery Superintendent (centre).
