Mug commemorating Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee, 1977

The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 2nd 1953 at Westminster Abbey, London. Her coronation came a year after the death of her father, King George VI. The event was the first British coronation to be fully televised with millions of people tuning in to see her crowned the Queen of the United Kingdom, Candada, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon). Celebrations took place across the Commonwealth and many commemorative items, such as this mug, were produced for retail.
