Sunset at Greenan Castle

The lands on which Greenan Castle's ruins now stands was once owned by the Davidson family in the 15th century, following which it was passed on to John Reid, a burgess of Ayr in 1576, before being bought by the Kennedy family of Baltersan. The Kennedys made several expansions and renovations to the castle, with a carved stone in the entrance lintel suggesting these were completed in 1603. Various members of the Kennedy family held residence at the castle until around 1766, when the castle was abandoned to the elements.
