Gas Mask

Period:
20th Century

The first chemical weapons were used during the First World War when both sides launched artillery shells containing cholorine gas at each other.  From then on it was necessary for soldiers on the battlefront to protect themselves from airbourne poisons by wearing respiratory equipment such as this British gasmask from World war II.
