Dagger (tantō)
What appears to be a closed fan actually hides a nasty surprise
- a dagger! This tantō with wooden sheath probably
dates from the late nineteenth century. These types of
weapons were disguised as fans so that they could easily be
concealed, and would have been used for self-defence rather than
for display or in battle.
