Yarn Bombing at Dumfries Museum ? Show Scotland Weekend

Come along to Dumfries Museum and Camera Obscura on Monday 4 May, between 11am and 4pm and discover an original form of graffiti – yarn bombing! The Click Talk group of knitters and crocheters plan to improve the museum grounds one stitch at a time. Over the last few weeks they have been producing a quirky and intricate array of flowers, vegetables, insects and animals to celebrate the “Gardens Great and Small” exhibition currently running at the museum. Visitors of all ages are invited to view the result and meet the group. Materials will also be available for those inspired to have a go themselves. All you need is to find a railing in need of a scarf, a border a little lacking in flowers, a shady corner for an animal to sleep in or a shrub without any fruit!

The event is part of Show Scotland, one of many planned at museums and galleries all over Scotland for the May Bank Holiday weekend. Show Scotland was created to encourage visitors to make better use of the nation’s museums and galleries, and has quickly become a highlight in Scotland’s cultural calendar. Creative and fun events to entice visitors through their doors will include late night openings, fun family activities and specially created arts performances.
