Looking for Golf Treasures...

South Ayrshire Council Museums Service, Ayrshire Archives and the Maclaurin Galleries are staging "The Whole on One - The History of Scottish Golf and the Open: The Ayrshire Links" next summer as part of Homecoming Scotland 2009.

We would like to discover what hidden treasures on this theme may be in the hands of the public. We are particularly interested in items with an Ayrshire link, such as to Prestwick, Troon or Turnberry courses or clubs or other local clubs or courses. Also items relating to wartime history, the development of the railways and related landmarks such as Turnberry Lighthouse. These could be pictures, posters, tickets, golf equipment, medals, letters or photographs to name but a few.

We would wish to record what we found, with as much background information as possible and selected items we may ask to display as part of the exhibition. Also if anyone wished to donate the items to the museum, this would be considered in line with our acquisitions policy.

Please contact Elinor Clark, Collections Management Officer with details of your treasures:
