John Halliday Paintings

John Halliday was born in Kirkcudbright in 1933 and, as a young man, was befriended by the painter, Cecile Walton 1891-1956. He went on the study at the Glasgow School of Art from 1949-53. He then was awarded a scholarship by the Royal Scottish Academy to travel through France and Italy.

For the majority of his career, Halliday has produced work on commission, particularly murals. His early work included panels of “10 Famous Scots” for Prestwick Airport (1968). After working from studios in Glasgow and Edinburgh, he returned to Kirkcudbright in 1990 to concentrate on easel painting and some trompe l’oeil panels. He recently settled in South Ayrshire, continuing his love of painting landscape and portraits.
