Future Museum Touring Exhibition: "The Legacy" and "Eldorado"

The Legacy is a major photographic commission by documentary photographer, Iain Brown from Ayr to whom it was awarded against stiff competition from photographers throughout Scotland.

The photographic exhibition documents the legacy of the mining industry in the South West of Scotland and its impact on the people and the landscape. Iain used the subject to highlight some of the many interesting stories that came from his conversations with people from the communities connected with the mining industry, past and present.

The work took place over a period of six weeks in the Spring of 2006. Iain said, ‘I approached the exhibition in a documentary style and found out so many interesting stories from the people living within mining communities. The work was put together over a period of six weeks in Spring 2006, but there are still many interesting tales yet to be documented.’

The Legacy is on display alongside Eldorado an exhibition exploring the history of mining in the south west of Scotland. Both exhibitions run until the end of September and will tour the south west of Scotland during the next two years. On 30th September they will reopen at Rozelle House, Ayr.

The Doon Valley museum is open from Thursday – Saturdays 11am – 5pm.

Rozelle House Galleries is open Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm (all year) and Sunday 2pm to 5pm (April - October)
