Royal Burgh of Dumfries, the visit of His Majesty the King of Norway, Freedom Ceremony

Description:

Programme for the Freedom Ceremony, where King Olav V of Norway was received as an "Honorary Burgess of the Burgh". This was "in testimony of the high respect and esteem in which his Majesty is held by the citizens of Dumfries and in recognition of the strong and lasting bond of friendship between the people of Norway and the citizens of Dumfries formed in comradeship in defence of freedom and maintained in the years of peace by continuity of interests and mutual affection".

 

The programme contains the order of proceedings and instructions for those attending, a photograph of King Olav and the Norwegian national anthem. Also featured is a picture of the Burgess Ticket that was presented to the King. It was designed by local artist James G Jeffs.
