1908 Pattern British Cavalry Sword

Although a rather rusty example, this pattern was one of the last ever swords to be issued to British cavalry troopers.  Swords such as this were soon discovered to be redundant as the cavalry charges of the 19th century gave way to the mud and trenches of the First World War.   These were lightweight swords with a moulded rubber handle designed to allow the horseman maximum thrusting ability.
