The Sword

Two-handed Sword (1)

Period:
16th Century
Description:
These giant swords (this one is over six-foot in length) were used most commonly in the late 15th and the early 16th centuries. They were used throughout Europe by expert and specialist mercenary regiments known as Landsknechts. The blades could be straight edged but were commonly wavy like this example. Although these weapons look unwieldy, with the correct training they were incredibly versatile and could be used to devastating effect by infantry.
