Description:

The 1st Ayrshire and Galloway Volunteers were one of the many volunteer units formed in the mid 19th century to counter the threat of French invasion.

 

The volunteer units were all disbanded in 1908 and incorporated into the Territorial Forces, now the Territorial Army.
