Ayrshire Relief Volunteers Badge (Relief of Ladysmith)

Period:
20th Century
Description:
Awarded following the siege of Ladysmith, South Africa, between 2 November 1899 and 28 February 1900. The relief of this siege succeeded due to naval guns being transported overland from HMS Powerful. This was the event that inspired the annual naval field gun race at the Royal Tournament, which was held until 1999 when the tournament was discontinued.
