Decorated strap end

Period:
Early Medieval
Description:

Strap-ends were used to strengthen the ends of belts.  The decoration on this example is typical of objects produced in Anglian Northumbria (northern England) during the eighth and early ninth centuries AD.  Similar Anglican-style strap ends have been discovered in Wigtwonshire at Luce Sands and Whithorn.

A corroded strap-end with interlace decoration on one face.  The terminal is absent.  The top end is damaged but one rivet hole remains with traces of an iron pin.
