Stone Gaming Counters, Whithorn

Period:
Early Medieval
Description:

Twenty-four small round stone discs were found at Whithorn, of which a number are shown here. They are probably gaming pieces, and a number of gaming boards were found at the site. The piece with a cross scratched on one face may be to represent a special piece, such as the king in a game of hnefatafl (King's Board).
