Left-Hand Dagger

The blade of this dagger is believed to be Scottish.  A number of similar blades are known to exist but this is the only one in the de Walden collection. It is infact, the only Scottish piece in the de Walden collection.    The blade and the hilt, which comes from Northern Italy, were united in the 19th century.  It would seem that the hilt was redecorated at this time.   The blade bears a lion rampant under a crown and phoenix and an inlaid brass 'M' on either side.  The "M" is the mark of an unidentified cutler.
