Hildoceras Bifrons

Ammonites like this lived in the Jurassic period. They belong to a group of animals known as Cephalopods. Today this group includes the soft-bodied octopus and squid, but many extinct species such as this had shells. These shells acted as both protection and as devices to help the animals float in the water.
