Colour lithographic postcard of a cartoon illustrating a line from a Burns song, "Oh! Whistle & I'll Come To You My Lad". It is signed by its artist, "Cynicus" and was published by the Cynicus Publishing Company. It is typical of many early humorous postcards on a Scottish theme and was posted on 17 October 1904.
Robert Burns collected and refined this traditional song, sending his version to his publisher, George Thomson in August 1793. It was published in "A Select Collection of Original Scottish Airs for the Voice" in 1817. The light hearted lyrics and catchy tune make this one of his most popular songs.
