New Album of the Land of Burns

A souvenir booklet containing lithographic engravings based on   photographic views of places associated with Robert Burns.   This small souvenir booklet contains prints of places with associations with Robert Burns. The boards are covered in embossed green leather cloth with a gilt design on the front. The inside pages are a continuous folded sheet.   The pages shown here are views of the towns of Ayr and Dumfries and also of Burns Statue, Dumfries and the statue of "Old Mortality" in the grounds of Dumfries Museum. They are presented to look like postcards or photographs in an album.   The booklet contains views of Kilmarnock, Mauchline, Alloway, Ayr and Dumfries presented to look like postcards or photographs in an album. It was printed and published in Germany, although Valentines and Sons of Dundee have been credited as "photographers".   Souvenir booklets containing views were popular with the tourists of the late 19th and early 20th century as very few people owned their own camera at this time.
