Letter from Gavin Turnbull with Song

Gavin Turnbull (1758-1801)was a Kilmarnock born poet and acquaintance of Robert Burns who began his writing career while employed in a carpet factory in the town.  He had a book of poetical essays published in Glasgow in 1789, before becoming an actor in Dumfries.  He eventually emigrated to the USA like so many others at the time.
