Alloway Kirk

The setting for the macabre scenes of dancing witches and the piping Deil witnessed by Tam O'Shanter in Burns' best loved poem is actually a picturesque little church which was featured in Francis Grose's book 'Antiquities of Scotland', at Burns' insistance.  It was in fact this book that the poem was written for.
