George Douglas Brown

George Douglas Brown (1869-1902) was born in Ochiltree, Ayrshire.  He attended local schools at Ochiltree and Coylton, then Ayr Academy from 1883, received a bursary to Glasgow University and continued his studies at Oxford.  In the latter part of his life he followed a career in journalism in London.  He is famous for writing "The House with the Green Shutters", published in 1901 under the name of George Douglas.  Already in poor health, he died of pneumonia in the following year.
