Peter Howson

Although born in London, Peter Howson grew up in Ayrshire. He studied at Glasgow School of Art under Sandy Moffat. Howson was a contemporary of fellow figurative painters Steven Campbell, Ken Currie and Adrian Wiszniewski and together they are referred to as the 'New Glasgow Boys'. Howson paints brutal masculine figures: His subject is often violence, which he condemns, and human pain and suffering, which he feels deeply. His dark canvases have brought Howson international success.
