Silhouette of James Urquhart

This silhouette is of the local writer James Urquhart, friend of the artist.   Urquuhart was a member of the 'The Gropers'; an eclectic group of artists, musicians, physicians, solicitors, foreigners and teachers, who met at the Yellow Door Studio, English Street, Dumfries both during and after the war, to discuss poetry and world events.  They called themselves 'The Gropers', to reflect their longing for enlightenment and thrived on good fellowship and faith in human decency.
