This decorative wooden quaich was made by William Hayland who was Convenor of Trades in 1810. Quaichs are traditionally used for drinking toasts in Scotland.
The property of the Seven Trades was auctioned on 8th April 1854 and became separated. Over the past 100 years these objects have been acquired by Dumfries Museum. This quaich has been part of the museum collection since 1936.
