Torthorwald Quoiting Club Medal

"The Band of Torthorweld's Brave Sons of the Quoit, 1840"   During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries quoiting was popular amongst ordinary working people, and games were played in nearly every town and village in Scotland.  The equipment was simple, consisting of two quoits and a piece of ground.  The ground usually belonged to an inn keeper, who was only too pleased for the extra custom.
