Paper Scraps

Collections of scraps in a Rogalls Majestic Chocolate and Toffee Assortment box. Scraps first became popular in Victorian times. From the early 1800s publishers produced picture sheets that were sold by stationers and booksellers.   These embossed scraps originated in Germany where they were used by bakers to decorate cakes and confectionary. Collecting scraps to decorate 'scrap'books, greeting, Christmas and Valentine cards was a popular pursuit of young Victorian ladies.  They were also used to decorate folding screens and other, similar pieces of furniture.
