Silver casket containing the burgess tickets of Provost and Mrs Halliday of Lochmaben

Description:

Ornate silver box with hinged lid.

 

Provost and Mrs Halliday of Esthwaite, Lochmaben were given the Freedom of the Burgh of Lochmaben in 1906 for their services to the town in helping to bring about a more efficient water supply.  It has several unique castings on its surface including a figure representing Industry of a woman seated at a spinning wheel on the cover which is inscribed 'to Provost and Mrs Halliday On The Occasion of The Freedon of the Burgh of Lochmaben Being conferred Upon Them By The Town Council 16th March 1906.  It also displays the Burgh seal and lion rampant medallions amongst thistles, a good representation of the Town Hall and Bruce statue flanked by the Watson & Halliday crests and at each end are figures of Science and the Arts, the back shows a view of Esthwaite their home.
